Is Anybody There?

I ask myself this all the time really….however, today I am refering to the title of a movie I watched yesterday on netflix instant play…I pretty much watch anything with Michael Caine.  Not all of his movies are great, but he’s always great.  Anyway, this was a charming movie, sweet and touching…alright fuck you, so I cried a little.  Damn movie!

Second Sight (BBC)

Been watching this BBC crime drama series about (described on netflix as “absorbing”…eeehhh…not really all that absorbing) -Det. Ross Tanner, played by Clive Owen back before he had giant white caps put on his teeth, is going blind because of some weird eye disease thing.  Aren’t we a bit tired of all the different gimicks writers use to make the detective story “fresh”?  —The crimes in this series are fairly easy to figure out ahead of time and not very interesting….Clive is the only thing really making it worth while to follow….but I tell you, if you want a BBC crime drama, check out Wire in the Blood.

The Proposal

so boring I spent most of the movie Tweeting….luckily I’d been warned it was just a so so movie so I waited to watch it on Netflix instant play…Rom Coms sometimes greatly underestimate the importance of CHEMISTRY….the plot doesn’t matter half as much as chemistry between the leads…and I personally favor Rom Coms with a good “meet cute” and this started out with them knowing, and disliking, each other… was boring.  Sandra is not charming in this one.

The Room

Like a 2 a.m Skinamax movie minus the soft porn sex scenes, this movie is seemingly low budget (though cost 7 million to make somehow), full of bad acting and a very poor plot created just for the purpose of setting up Lisa’s many sex scenes…yet, sex scenes in this movie were slow, boring, not very revealing, and shot “artistically” I’d guess…through the bed netting etc.  The plot seemed to be created just for the purpose of a sex scene every ten minutes but you’d want to sleep through them….

The horrible acting made our viewing audience turn into Mystery Science Theater type characters, filling in the dialogue with storylines and jokes of our own.  Truly the worst movie (to take itself so seriously) ever made–and yes, I’ve seen Manos…it’s Oscar bait next to this film!!  The writer/director/producer/lead actor, Tommy Wiseau, claims he meant it to be funny…somehow I don’t buy that.  And I now hope I never see roses, bed netting, silk, and the Golden Gate Bridge again.

Rent this movie if you love making fun of horrible movies….or if you are really curious just how bad a movie can be.

Wire in the Blood (finished series)

Was a great series.  Sad to be done with it.  I hope they give us a season 7 one of these days.  Dr. Tony Hill was one of my favorite TV characters.  And I learned a bit about psy profiling.  I didn’t care as much about the who done it of the crimes as much as I enjoyed watching Tony figure it all out using psychology.

Jersey Shore

I’m from (and live) in the Southern US…so we have our fair share of “types.”….so it is interesting to me to watch these “Guido” Jersey types doing their thing….but I can’t decide if I like this reality show or not.  I think I wonder about the “reality” of it.  I think I’d rather see them documentary style in their natural habitat instead of “Real World” put into a house together with a hot tub to see how much sexual drunken fighting drama crap breaks out.  Seems like they’re fitting all the drama in fast!  But…maybe that’s how it goes wth Guidos….I’m still watching.  Can’t believe some guy punched a girl in the face!
